Fusion Line Detection and Sizing (FLDS) ultrasonic transducers provide accurate, high resolution, same side sizing of Stress Corrosion Cracks (SCC), toe cracks, and other surface breaking defects in Carbon steel adjacent to welds or other surface obstructions. The FLDS C-series transducers were designed for same side sizing of surface breaking defects in carbon steel adjacent to surface obstructions. FLDS C-series transducers provide accurate and repeatable sizing capabilities to depths as shallow as 0.2mm. In addition, the FLDS transducer has the ability to provide information about the crack propagation angle.
FLDS C-series transducers are well suited for sizing defects located in areas adjacent to surface obstructions such as longseam caps and girthwelds. The design of the transducer results in the ability to inspect cracks adjacent to welds that are isolated or if the crack is located within an area that contains additional cracking. If the defect under investigation is located in areas free of surface obstructions the Eclipse Scientific Inc. NSDS transducer is available.
Although the FLDS C-series transducer was designed for pipeline applications the transducer may be used in other applications as well.
