Near Side Detection and Sizing (NSDS) H-series ultrasonic transducers provide accurate, high resolution, same side sizing of Stress Corrosion Cracks (SCC) and other surface breaking defects in Carbon steel. The NSDS H-series family, consisting of an HD, HE, HF, and HG transducer, were designed for same side sizing of surface breaking defects in carbon steel. Selection of the appropriate H-series transducer for an application will provide accurate and repeatable sizing capabilities to depths as shallow as 0.5mm.
NSDS H-series transducers are well suited for sizing defects located in areas that are free of surface obstructions such as longseam caps and girthwelds because the transducer must be positioned above the defect. If the defect is located adjacent to a surface obstruction the Eclipse Scientific Inc. FLDS transducer is available.
Although the NSDS H-series transducer was designed for pipeline applications, the transducer is effective in sizing opposite wall defects and for sizing on storage tanks or flat surfaces.
