Architecture

ESCDB is built on a client/server based architecture for centrally storing, managing and controlling access to data.  Information is stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database.

The server can be accessed within a corporate network or may be configured to allow access through the internet if desired.

ESCDB leverages SQL Server’s security infrastructure and includes support for user based login or using Windows Authentication.   Based on the roles that a specific user belongs to, the client controls access to what functionality is available to them.

Administrative users represent the highest level of security in the system and are allowed to perform administrative functions.   Administrative functions include the ability to create new user accounts and control which users have access to which specific functionality.

Projects

Project management is a complex undertaking, with many stages and processes. It should follow the full business lifecycle, from definition and justification of the project, through to delivering demonstrable benefits for the business.

ESCDB makes it easy to track and manage all aspects of a project including humans resources, activities, purchasing and costing.

With the project manager you can estimate and track basic cost information for your project. You can use several different types of costs, and the system calculates those costs for you as the project progresses, including time reporting, expenses and purchases. With a budget in place, you can better manage costs by comparing actual expenditures with what you planned to spend so that you can make adjustments to stay within budget. For the most part, all you have to do is enter progress information for activities.

Document Management

ESCDB includes a powerful document management system designed to capture, manage, and share digital documents. Improve the bottom-line with increased efficiency and collaboration, and reduce risk by meeting higher standards of compliance and business continuity. The DMS integrates a full complement of electronic document management software capabilities within the Microsoft Windows environment.

Metadata is stored for each document, including the date the document was created and the identity of the user creating and modifying it.

Check-in and check-out procedures allow users to collaborate on documents and make individual changes with confidence that everybody's changes will not be overwritten or deleted. It allows many people to work on and edit the same document, at different times, in an organized manner without the need to copy-and-paste or email changes. As documents are checked back in, versioning automatically captures the latest file version, while retaining previous versions. Users can view the status of documents, and know if a document is currently being worked on or available for editing.

Integrated version control automatically sequences each version of a file. Document version numbers are displayed and can be identified at a glance so time is never wasted finding the latest version. Prior versions can be viewed or edited by users who have permission. Version control eliminates the need for adhoc naming conventions to manage file versions, such as appending a date or user name to a file. Users no longer need to remember to manually version documents.

Communication and collaboration among people is a cornerstone of team-based productivity. Standard notification and approval features in the DMS drive teamwork by keeping members informed about document changes.

Subscriptions keep people informed when changes, updates, or other important events occur. For example, automatically receive email notifications every time a certain document is modified.

Robust and flexible document security adds confidence that all information is secure and accessible only to those who are authorized. Maintain your own data with authentication credentials and to grant privileges on group basis.

Document locator's security and auditing capabilities are based on the familiar Microsoft NT security model.

Scheduling and Resource Management

The built in resource scheduler lets you manage your equipment and people effectively.

The scheduler automates the time consuming process of project and resources scheduling. Organizations are able to reduce real estate costs, improve productivity, and maximize efficiency.

An industry standard Gantt chart allows you to quickly and easily visualize people and equipment schedules as well as their upcoming availability.
