142 - Olympus OmniScan Phased Array Advanced User
Objectives
Suitable ForThe course is designed for any Level 2 or 3 UT technician who is required to perform data analysis or is tasked with procedure and technique development. The benefit to the employer will be significant, as the graduate of this course will be capable of analyzing, solving and reporting clear comprehensive findings for those problematic NDT/NDE applications. Course Duration5 days (40 hours) Course Equipment and MaterialsA wide range of collected data sets will be examined, along with the
opportunity to interface the TomoView software to the OmniScan instrument. Several transducer and
flaw samples will be available for hands-on applications. In addition students will have the oppor-
tunity to operate some of the many Olympus scanners. Scanners such as the Olympus HSMT, Chain
Scanner and the Olympus Weld Rover will make this course a must for students tasked with area and
weld field activity. There will also be an opportunity to work with specialized equipment
application such as the use of immer- sion probes or the new Olympus Hydroform. Students will
benefit from gaining exposure to the Jireh LowPro (Olympus Cobra) for
boiler weld applications.
Requirements for Successful CompletionA mark of 80% is required for successful completion and certification. The final pass mark is based on combined daily quiz marks and final exam. A Certificate of Completion is provided. |

The Phased Array Advanced User course will empower the technician to address problematic applications. The course is designed to convey inspection and analysis solutions to common and several unique applications. Numerous concepts and detailed inspection approaches will be covered providing the technician with how-to solutions using advanced features of phased array equipment and analysis software. The course will cover complex transducer configurations, in addition to issues experienced with problematic material properties and difficult geometry characteristics.
